What you need

    • Use a pry tool or fingernail to carefully remove the large foot on the lower end of the mouse.

    • Remove the three 7 mm screws using a Torx T6 screwdriver.

    • BEFORE YOU OPEN THE MOUSE: Be careful at this point. Both shells are connected with a cable in the front of the mouse.

    • Insert a spudger into the seam between the top and bottom shells.

    • Gently work around the edges unclipping the internal latches.

    • Slowly lift the top shell but do not remove it yet; the cables are still attached to the circuit board.

    • Carefully pull the shells apart to unplug the cable in the front.

    • Using a small pry tool or your fingers, gently pop the scroll wheel up and out of its housing

    • Use a T6 Torx screwdriver to remove the 5mm screws securing the circuit board.

    • Unplug the battery from its connection on the right side.

    • Be careful not to break the two clips that hold the PCB at the front of the mouse.

    • At the front of the PCB next to the encoder, remove the switch held in place by clips by gently pulling it free.

    • Wear eye protection.

    • Take care not to damage the PCB or any other components.

    • Use a pair of flush cutters to cut the legs of the encoder.

    • Desolder the legs of the 15 mm encoder on the underside of the PCB.

    • Remove the encoder.

    • Always solder in a well ventilated area.

    • Use a solder sucker to remove any excess solder.

    • Press the new 15 mm encoder into place

    • If the encoder does not fit properly, clean the old solder more thoroughly.

    • Solder the new 15 mm encoder into place.
