Introduction

Follow these steps to disassemble the drill and replace the planetary gear for the RIDGID R84015 X2 power drill.

Using a Torx T20 screwdriver, remove the four screws attaching the back plate. Using a Torx T20 screwdriver, remove the four screws attaching the back plate.
  • Using a Torx T20 screwdriver, remove the four screws attaching the back plate.

Add Comment

Remove the five screws attaching the drill handle.
  • Remove the five screws attaching the drill handle.

Add Comment

Remove the 4 screws attaching the front of the casing. Remove the 4 screws attaching the front of the casing.
  • Remove the 4 screws attaching the front of the casing.

Deck the Halls
With tools and Fix Kits
Unscrew the four screws at the rear of the plastic gear chamber.
  • Unscrew the four screws at the rear of the plastic gear chamber.

Add Comment

Remove the motor from the drill. NOTE: Handle the gear chamber with caution as the gears are now loose.
  • Remove the motor from the drill.

Remove the four screws that attach the plastic gear chamber.
  • Remove the four screws that attach the plastic gear chamber.

  • Remove the plastic gear chamber.

Add Comment

Remove each component from the gear assembly. Remove each component from the gear assembly.
  • Remove each component from the gear assembly.

Very helpful, thank you! I was not sure how to detach the motor from the gearbox and didn't want to apply any brute force, and this explained it well.
