Introduction
An overlock machine that is used a lot for serging will collect lint inside. Also, an overlock has a lot of moving parts where metal rubs on metal.
That's why, for a long life, it's a good idea to clean and oil the machine completely and occasionally and not just in the hook area,
This work is not particularly difficult and can also be carried out by seamstresses.
In addition, an opening of the housing is a starting point for repairs such as replacement of the motor or toothed belt and adjustment work of the needle bar and looper.
The machine has quite a lot of screws of different lengths. It is good to have a sorting box ready to put away the screws for the respective step.
What you need
-
-
Remove the thread spools
-
Pull away the free arm cover to the left
-
Loosen the screw with the plastic thread from the embroidery width selector and pull off the stitch width selector.
-
Loosen the M4 x 8 screw on the left side.
-
On the older model there is another M4 x 8 screw next to the stitch width selector.
-
Loosen the M4 x 12 screw on the back side.
-
Pull the left housing part away to the left
-
-
-
At the front left, there is a small housing part that is attached with an M4 x 8 screw.
-
It does not expose any functional parts and does not need to be removed from the machine
-
-
-
Loosen the M3 x 6 screw on the underside of the presser foot lever and pull off the presser foot lever
-
Remove the M4 x 8 screw
-
Pull off the upper left housing part to the left
-
-
-
-
Because the housing parts are somewhat interlocked, you should always remove these 3 parts together
-
Loosen the two M4 x 6 screws at the rear of the unit
-
Loosen the two M4 x 20 screws (with flange) that hold the cover flap on the bottom of the machine.
-
From the inside, loosen the M4 x 8 screw with flange.
-
Do NOT loosen the thread tension screw.
-
-
-
Loosen the two M4 x 8 screws on the right side
-
DO NOT loosen the retaining screw of the knob
-
Remove the front and rear housing
-
-
-
Now the machine is open
-
Suck off lint and fabric residues or even better blow them away with compressed air
-
Turn the handwheel to check on the mechanics
-
Most importantly, lightly oil the linear slide bearings (1 drop is enough). Needle bar, upper looper, knife
-
The rotary slide bearings can also be oiled very lightly.
-
-
-
The thread tensioners are in the front part of the housing.
-
Look between the two discs (pink arrows) and press the button (blue arrow).
-
The gap must become larger when the button is pressed and there must be no thread remnants or other dirt in it. Clean by blowing or pulling a thread through. NO oil.
-
On the back of the housing are the thread guides (2nd picture red arrows). There is some foam under the metal part. Check for burrs and dirt.
