Introduction

This Guide will give step-by-step instructions on how to install a microphone and speaker system into the Olympus D590 camera.

Image 1/1: Unscrew all 5 base plate screws.
  • Flip camera so you are looking at the bottom.

  • Unscrew all 5 base plate screws.

  • Lift open retainer clip by sliding the clip to the left and letting the clip pop up.

  • Unscrew 1 screw located next to the battery slot.

Image 1/1: Lift the rubber plate exposing the ports beneath.
  • Turn the camera so the USB, AV and DC in/out rubber plate it facing you.

  • Lift the rubber plate exposing the ports beneath.

  • Unscrew the 2 screws next to the USB and AC ports.

  • Use a flathead screwdriver or another flat opening tool to pry the the faceplate from the whole device.

Image 1/1: Be careful because there is a connector that goes from the faceplate to the motherboard and if that line disconnects the camera will not power on through the on and off switch anymore.
  • Pull off the faceplate revealing the inside of the camera.

  • Use a phillips head screwdriver to remove the 3 screws highlighted in the picture.

  • Unscrew the 2 screws located on either side of the flash.

Image 1/1: Carefully pry off the blackplate from the remaining part of the camera.
  • Get a flathead screwdriver or an iPod opening tool (both are shown in this picture).

  • Carefully pry off the blackplate from the remaining part of the camera.

  • Pull the backplate off.

  • Unscrew 1 screw from LCD screen.

Image 1/2: Lift the camera NO MORE than 3cm to make sure all screws have been taken off. Image 2/2: Lift the camera NO MORE than 3cm to make sure all screws have been taken off.
  • Remove the side pannel by sliding it off the body of the camera.

  • Lift the camera NO MORE than 3cm to make sure all screws have been taken off.

Image 1/2: Remove gray and blue wiring with tweasers by gently wiggling and pulling. Image 2/2: Be careful not to rip the wiring tape with the tweezers.
  • Flip camera so you are looking at the front.

  • Remove gray and blue wiring with tweasers by gently wiggling and pulling.

  • Be careful not to rip the wiring tape with the tweezers.

Image 1/2: Gently lift the tape till all wires are exposed. Image 2/2: Gently lift the tape till all wires are exposed.
  • Locate the tape securing the wiring with the gray end piece located on top of the camera.

  • Gently lift the tape till all wires are exposed.

Image 1/1: Pull and wriggle the thin yellow wiring tape to detach it from the rest of the camera, while leaving it attached to the LCD screen.
  • Flip Camera to the bottom side as shown.

  • Pull and wriggle the thin yellow wiring tape to detach it from the rest of the camera, while leaving it attached to the LCD screen.

Image 1/3: Locate speaker in upper right hand corner. Image 2/3: Gently lift with tweasers. Image 3/3: Feed wiring through designated spot so that it is no longer connected to the camera.
  • Flip camera so the front is facing you.

  • Locate speaker in upper right hand corner.

  • Gently lift with tweasers.

  • Feed wiring through designated spot so that it is no longer connected to the camera.

Image 1/2: Gently pull the thick yellow wiring out by using the forefinger and thumb. Image 2/2: Gently pull the thick yellow wiring out by using the forefinger and thumb.
  • Lift the LCD screen so the thick yellow wiring is the only thing attaching the LCD screen to the camera.

  • Gently pull the thick yellow wiring out by using the forefinger and thumb.

Image 1/3: Remove the tape holding the speaker down by lifing with tweesers. Image 2/3: Remove speaker from holding dock. Image 3/3: Remove speaker from holding dock.
  • Locate speaker on the back of the LCD screen.

  • Remove the tape holding the speaker down by lifing with tweesers.

  • Remove speaker from holding dock.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
