Introduction
Many crochet projects begin with an adjustable starting loop called a magic circle that is secured by just one main section of yarn at the center. The adjustable loop and center stitches will open/unravel if that section of yarn is cut or damaged. This guide describes the process of repairing crochet projects with damage to the center of their magic circle.
What you need
-
-
Locate the loose section of yarn at the center of your project's magic circle. This will be your starting point for the repair.
-
Using your scissors and additional yarn, cut a section of yarn that is about 5-10 inches long. This will be your repair yarn.
-
Tie the two ends together.
-
-
-
The bottom of each stitch is made up of two loops of yarn. Thread the longer piece of your repair yarn through the tapestry needle and send them through both bottom loops of the nearest center stitch.
-
Continue to weave the repair yarn through the bottom loops of each remaining center stitch with your tapestry needle.
-
-
-
-
Weave the tapestry needle through the ending stitch once more, but do not pull the repair yarn the way through. This leaves a loop of repair yarn.
-
Send the tapestry needle through the center of your repair yarn loop and tighten to secure the repair yarn. This knot ensures that your magic circle stays closed.
-
Once the magic circle is repaired, use or wear your project as originally intended. If the center yarn is damaged again, just perform the steps of this guide again!
