Kayak Handle Replacement

What you need

  1. Kayak Handle Replacement, Handle: step 1, image 1 of 1
    • Detach the handle and paracord strap from the kayak.

    • Insert the screwdriver into the head of the bolt on the bottom side of the handle.

    • Apply pressure to the bottom of the handle.

    • Remove the top part of the handle by using the screwdriver to pop it out.

    • Caution: Do not let the hardware fall into the hull, as it may slide into unreachable areas of the bow or stern.

    • Pull the paracord out of the handle so they are separate from each other.

    • Cut the end of the paracord using your knife or a pair of scissors.

    • Insert the paracord into the bottom side of the handle through the small hole.

    • Pull it through so each side of the paracord is evenly inserted.

    • Tie a knot with the paracord using both ends of the already inserted paracord.

    • Pull it tight and be sure that the knot is as close to the edge of the paracord as possible.

    • Cut the excess paracord at the end of the knot if there is any.

    • Pull the paracord through the handle so that the knot is now inside the handle.

    • Add the cover of the handle back onto the top. Secure it down tightly.

    • Locate the metal bar on the kayak and place the looped end of the new handle underneath it.

    • Pull the paracord all the way through until the handle stops it.

    • Loop the paracord over the plastic handle.

    • Pull the handle tightly to secure it in place.
