Introduction

This is a general guide of how to take an In-ground pool filter out of the pump, clean it and return it back into the pump.

What you need

Make sure the pool pump switch is off.

Unscrew the metal ring bracket that is on the filter housing in order to remove the top half of the filter housing (lid). Turn the handle in a counter-clock wise motion until it is completely loose and the screw can be removed.

Take the metal ring bracket off.

Remove the top half of the filter housing.

Unscrew the filter cap in a counter clock wise motion until it comes off.

Take the pool filter out and place on the ground. Put the new filter in and to put it all back together you can simply follow these directions in reverse order.

Step 8 Addendum to Step 7

While the filter housing is apart, you should inspect the O-ring to determine if it has any cracks or tears. If so, replace it with a new O-ring. If it still appears to be in decent condition, then continue to use it and apply a little lube. NEVER use Vaseline or any other petroleum-based lubricant on pool parts. Look for silicone-based lubes.
