Introduction

The tristar tester is a device to test the tristar chip on Apple devices. The tristar chip is responsible for USB function as well as charging the battery. The tester can be a bit finicky and the manual is not great.

    • There are two modes

    • Standard - no need to do anything while booting up. The tester limits options to Quick Test

    • Expert - hold the right button while turning on the device enabling expert mode and the use of Test

    • I've found that if the tester is charging the tristar may provide you with a false positive.

    • If the battery on the device you are testing is disconnected it may also provide a false positive.

Conclusion

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
