How to replace a snap fastener on your sleeping bag such as on the thermal collar

Introduction

During prolonged or heavy use, a snap can come off your clothing or gear and get lost. Not to worry – a worn-out or defective snap on a sleeping bag can easily be replaced. Replacement snaps often come with the product in a small bag. If you don’t have a replacement snap, you can pick one up in a fabric supplies store – they come in several shapes and sizes and fit almost anywhere. Here we’ll show you an example of how you can replace a snap on a pair of trousers.

A snap fastener consists of four parts.
Tip: For these instructions we’ve used Prym snap fasteners which are widely available in German stores.

Step 2

Remove the damaged snap fastener: When you replace one side of a snap, you also have to replace the other side as well. Use the pincers to carefully pry underneath the snap and detach it from the material.

Attaching the new snap fastener to the first side: Push any fill to the side and adjust the fabric. Insert both parts of the snap fastener and press them together firmly with the snap tool. Then give them a couple of strong taps with the hammer.
