How to Reset a Whirlpool Washing Machine Using Factory Calibration Mode

Video Guide
This guide was transcribed from a YouTube video.

What you need

    • WARNING: Keep hands clear of moving parts and don’t bypass the lid lock during calibration.

    • Make sure the washer is in standby with no lights lit on the control panel.

    • Remove all clothes, and make sure the tub has no water in it and is fully drained.

    • Make sure the washer has electrical power.

    • Make sure both hot and cold water supply hoses are connected and have a good clean water supply.

    • Complete the button sequence in about eight seconds or less.

    • Press key 1, press key 2, press key 1, and press key 2.

    • Wait for the lid to lock and for all the control panel lights to turn on.

    • Rotate the dial clockwise once.

    • Note: You may see the Sense light change off and on, or it may not change.

    • Press keys 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 in order.

    • Watch for the lights to turn off as you press each key in order.

    • Wait while the washer makes noises and the LED panel blinks a few times.

    • Wait for the lid lock light to flash and for the lid to unlock.

    • Open the lid, and then close it after the washer unlocks.

    • Watch for the lid to re-lock and for the lights to run and blink in order.

    • Let the washer run the calibration cycle once the lights start running and blinking in order.

    • Listen for the shifter to run and for water to start as the calibration sequence begins.

    • Wait about four minutes for calibration to complete.

    • Confirm calibration is done when the lights flash off.

    • Unplug the washer before removing any rear covers.

    • Go to the rear of the washer and remove the screw that holds the wire plate cover.

    • Use a T20 Torx driver or a 1/4 inch driver to remove the five screws on the plate.

    • Move the plate away from the washer to expose the control area behind it.

    • Plug the washer back in to check the control board’s hidden green status LED.

    • Look for a flashing green LED, which indicates the unit has power.

    • If the green LED isn’t flashing, the washer may not be getting power or the control board may be bad.

    • Unplug the washer again before reinstalling the rear plate and screws.

Conclusion

If the washer accepts the sequences, the lid locks, the lights cycle, and the calibration runs for about four minutes before the lights flash off. If the washer won’t enter recalibration, use the rear access check to confirm whether the control board’s green status LED is flashing.
