Introduction

This guide shows the proper steps to replace the thermal fuse in a Hot Tools HPK12 flat iron. Before starting, carefully read over the ifixit troubleshooting guide to address what issue your iron is having and if the thermal fuse is what needs to be replaced. As always, be sure the iron is disconnected from power and cooled for at least 45 minutes before beginning. Under no circumstance should the iron be turned on until it is correctly and completely reassembled.

Remove round plastic cover near cord base by prying under the side with the metal spudger. Flip the device and remove the other round plastic cover near the base of the cord. Use the Phillips #1 screwdriver to remove the 5.5mm PH1 screw and washer under the plastic cover and set both aside.
