Introduction
The Homelite 4.8 Volt Cordless Grass Shear (model UT44172), also known as the Homelite Trimmer UT44172, Homelite UT44172 Shear, or Homelite UT44172 Cordless Grass Shears, use this guide to replace the plastic casing.
The plastic casing serves as protection for internal components such as the motor, internal wiring, and rechargeable battery as well as safety protection, safely housing a safety switch, ensuring the blades are not engaged unless activated manually.
Signs that the plastic casing might be compromised may be visual: cracks or splits on the casing and debris intrusions, such as grass, dirt, or foliage within the device. Other symptoms of a compromised plastic casing exist as operational and mechanical signs, such as a sticky or loose safety switch, excessive vibration or noise, or blade misalignment (loose or wobbly blades).
For more information on these symptoms, see the Homelite UT44172 trouble shooting page.
To prevent unintentionally activating the blades, make sure to take the battery out of the device before starting. Use caution when handling loose internal wires during the replacement process to avoid damaging connections.
For the operator's manual and additional device information, see the Homelite UT44172 user manual.
