Introduction

The purpose of this guide is to give the necessary steps to remove your device cooling fan.

  1. Make sure the computer is completely powered down and unplug the power cord.

  2. Place the device on your work surface with bottom facing up and the battery located at the top.

  3. Slide the left release tab toward the center of the computer to the unlock position. Next slid the right tab toward the center of the computer and hold it there while completing step 4.

  4. Remove the battery by sliding it upwards and away from the computer.

  5. Unscrew the ten  6.0 mm Philips head screws on the base of the device with a Phillips #0 head screwdriver.

  7. Insert the plastic opening tool between the keyboard and the plastic housing.
    • Insert the plastic opening tool between the keyboard and the plastic housing.

    • Pry the keyboard upward away from the device.

    • Move the tool around the edge of the entire keyboard while continuing to pry.

    • You will hear the clips pop once you have released them.

  8. Once you have released all of the clips, slowly lift the keyboard exposing the ribbon cable.

    • Lift the tab on the keyboard ZIF connector with a plastic opening tool and gently remove the ribbon cable.

  9. Remove the eight 6.0 mm screws located under the keyboard with your Philips #0 screwdriver.
    • Remove the eight 6.0 mm screws located under the keyboard with your Philips #0 screwdriver.

  10. Remove the track pad and power button ribbon cables.
    • Remove the track pad and power button ribbon cables.

    • Lift the locking bar on each connector with a plastic opening tool and gently remove the ribbon cables

  11. To remove the palm rest, insert the plastic opening tool in the seam between the palm rest and the base.

    • Pry upward to undo each clip.

    • Continue this process around the entire palm rest.

  12. Once all clips have been undone lift the palm rest away from the laptop.

  13. Your now ready to remove the cooling fan.

    • Disconnect the cable that connects the fan to the motherboard.

  14. Unscrew the three 6.0 mm screws on each corner securing the cooling fan with a Phillips #0 screwdriver.
    • Unscrew the three 6.0 mm screws on each corner securing the cooling fan with a Phillips #0 screwdriver.

  15. Remove the cooling fan by lifting upwards and pulling to the right.
    • Remove the cooling fan by lifting upwards and pulling to the right.

Conclusion

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
