Place thumb on the battery switch and push to slide. The battery will eject.
Replace and discard old battery with a new working battery.

can you help me please? I have a Compaq cq58 and the battery is jammed in, as the battery release button hasn’t flipped back to where it should be. It won’t budge and i need to get the battery off as i have to change the screen - and don’t want any power getting to any of the laptop components!
