This teardown is not a repair guide. To repair your Twingo III, use our service manual.

    1. H4D: Intake and air supply, Intake manifold, throttle body: step 1, image 1 of 2 H4D: Intake and air supply, Intake manifold, throttle body: step 1, image 2 of 2
      • 6 N·m

      • 10 N·m

      • Oil vapor breather hose.

      • Fuel vapor recirculation hose.

      • MAP sensor

      • Intake air temperature sensor

      • The intake manifold is supplied by Sogefi. It includes an air resonator and appears to be made of two bonded parts.

      • On Smarts, the air intake is at a grille on the side of the vehicle. This does not exist on the Twingo III Phase 1, except for the GT. The intake duct includes a resonator before the filter.

      • Oil vapor breather duct.

      • Some optimizations seem possible.

      • The air filter for the H4D and H4Bt are identical.

      • I was lucky enough to find a Twingo III Phase 2 that has the missing cover. You can see the intake opening and the resonator. This photo gives a better idea of how this system is installed just above the left rear wheel.

      • 10 N.m

      • The role of the breather is to send oil vapors into the intake to be burned rather than venting them into the atmosphere. It also evacuates excess crankcase pressure. It is attached to the cylinder head cover.

      • All components located after the breather lines are susceptible to being clogged by oil vapors (throttle body, MAP sensor, intake temperature sensor, injectors). They should therefore be inspected regularly and cleaned if necessary to ensure optimal operation.

      • This piece of hose contributes to pressure regulation. Blocking it will lead to "unexpected" behaviors.

      • A leak in this conduit will allow air to bypass the throttle body and can cause idle issues.

      • A very small diameter on this fitting in one direction limits the airflow leaving the oil sump towards one of the two outlets. The other has a larger flow rate.
