Introduction

Adjusting the governor helps maintain a steady engine speed no matter the terrain and other conditions that could effect the engine workload. While the manufacturer highly recommends against this, it may be necessary to keep your engine running well.

Before starting, make sure the engine isn't running and is not hot.
Using needle-nose pliers, carefully unhook the spring from the end opposite the air filter.

Use the needle-nose pliers to either lengthen or shorten the hook at the end of the spring.
If your engine is stalling or refusing to start, try shortening the spring. This will enable more fuel to reach to engine at idle. If the engine is bogged down when running and you hear liquids splashing, try lengthening the spring.
