Introduction
Cleaning out a Lifebook E5511. These devices are easy to open and work on, no annoying and too tight plastic clips holding the bottom cover and there is an easily replacable battery.
I'm 99% sure the same exact steps apply to it's 14" sibling, E5411, but I'll make sure soon.
What you need
-
-
Remove the battery by sliding (1) up and (2) to the right, then just lift it out.
-
-
-
Remove three screws holding the maintence panel. Remove the panel by lifting it from the right side. Now we can access RAM, SSD and a possible LTE-modem.
-
Remove all marked screws to remove the bottom cover. Screws marked with different colors have different thread/length. Blue screw holds the SSD against the bottom cover, so that and the drive has to come out. RAM can be removed, but it's not mandatory.
-
LTE-modem would be located under the left side green arrow. You can see the antennas there.
-
-
-
-
To completely remove the bottom cover, use a opening pick or something similar to pry the cover open from a corner. It starts to open very easily and can be just lifted up once all the clips are opened.
-
Use air duster to remove dust from the insides, also from the "fan grille" on bottom cover
-
-
-
Wifi module has one screw and two antennas to it. Unplug the antennas, remove the screw and lift the module out.
-
Below the Wifi module are LTE antennas and a slot for optional LTE modem
-
-
-
CMOS battery can be removed with an opening pick or something similar. Just lift it gently from the right side.
-
-
-
CPU-cooler has 4 screws, fan has 2 screws and power cable
-
Clean out old thermal paste with paper towel and IPA/paste cleaner. Clean out dust from the fan and heatsink with canned air.
-
Place a small blob of thermal paste to the center of CPU, mount the cooler and use x-pattern to screw it in. If you feel like it, remove the cooler again to check if amount of paste is good.
