Introduction

This guide will show you how to replace the string and spring using the spring and string kit sold by Ernie Ball. This kit is compatible for volume pedal Jr models 6180 and 6181, as well as the MVP.

Insert the loop of the short cord through eyelet from the rear of the pedal Pass cord down and under rear black pulley, and attach spring to loop.
  • Insert the loop of the short cord through eyelet from the rear of the pedal Pass cord down and under rear black pulley, and attach spring to loop.

    • The eyelet is located under the top plate, toward front of the pedal.

    • Place the cord inside the pedal, under the main cross shaft, and let it lie there for now.

  • Move the pedal to the “toe-up” position.

  • Insert the loop of the long cord through the rear side of eyelet toward the front of the pedal.

Rotate the brass pot pulley to full the counter-clockwise position.
  • Rotate the brass pot pulley to full the counter-clockwise position.

  • Wind the cord clockwise 3 times from back side of brass pulley.

  • The Cord must be wound from the inside of the pulley (nearest to the black mounting block), to the outside.

    • Do not twist cord or wind it over itself.

From the side of the open pedal, hold spring in place while carefully attaching the long cord's loop to remaining end of the spring.

  • You may want to make a small hooking mechanism, possibly out of a paper clip, to perform this task.

Pull the long cord forward and onto the front black pulley. Make sure that the short cord is in place on the back black pulley.

From the front of the open pedal, gently pull the spring forward while pressing firmly on the rear of top plate. Continue to do so until it bottoms out.
  • From the front of the open pedal, gently pull the spring forward while pressing firmly on the rear of top plate. Continue to do so until it bottoms out.

  • Continue pulling the spring forward, and turn brass pot pulley to full counter-clockwise position. This correctly seats the pot and cord.
