Dyson V6 Brush Bar Disassembly and Fix

What you need

  1.     • Remove the first flap using a flathead screwdriver or small coin to turn the mechanism to the unlocked position.

    • Use a T10 Torx screwdriver to remove all visible screws. Remove the secondary plate and any further screws. Note the location of the one long screw, the rest are interchangeable at this stage.

    • Turn the brush bar over and carefully remove the top cover.

    • There is a single plastic clip holding it in place.

    • You may wish to use a flathead screwdriver or spudger. If the plastic clip breaks, this should not be a huge issue, as the rest of the cover is held in with screws.

    • You now have access to the motor assembly. This can be removed from the body of the brush bar with some gentle twisting and tugging.

    • You do not need to remove the belt drive assembly to remove any hair caught in the ball bearing

    • Once removed, you can use a 9mm socket to rotate a spiral mechanism and loosen the belt drive.

    • If you need to remove the belt drive system, start by using a small thin tool such as a metal skewer to lift it off the small pulley.

    • Use the flat spot on the large pulley to lift the belt out of the pulley. use the same mechanism to reverse.

    • Use a T8 Torx screwdriver to remove the screw holding the spiral drive mechanism in place. This is the drive mechanism that spins the brush bar.

    • Use a thin flat device such as a spudger, screwdriver, or metal prying tool to lift the spiral drive piece off its axle.

    • You can now see one side of the ball bearing. This is where hair gets trapped if the brush bar is not cleaned regularly enough.

    • You can remove the hair and regrease the ball bearing from here.
