Introduction
Use this guide to remove, wash, dry, and reinstall the filter in a Dyson V15 Detect. A dirty filter can restrict airflow and reduce suction. Wash the filter at least once a month, or more often after vacuuming fine dust or using Boost mode frequently. The filter must be completely dry before reinstallation.

Step 1 Prepare the vacuum

Turn off the Dyson V15 Detect and disconnect it from the charger.

Wash only the removable filter, using cold water.

Step 2 Remove the filter

Locate the filter at the top of the vacuum.

Turn the filter counterclockwise until it releases from the vacuum body.

Pull the filter away from the vacuum.

Gently tap the filter over a trash bin to remove loose dust and debris.

Step 3 Inspect the filter

Inspect the filter media, housing, and seal for tears, cracks, or deformation.

Reuse the filter if it is intact and cleaning restores normal performance.

Step 4 Wash the pleated element

Hold the filter under a cold running tap with the foam element facing down.

Run cold water over the pleated paper element until the water runs clear.

Step 5 Wash the foam element
-
Keep the foam element facing down and run cold water over its inside and outside.

Gently squeeze only the foam element to expel dirt, and continue until the water runs clear.

Wash the outside of the filter, fill it with cold water, cover the openings with your hands, and shake it gently.

Repeat the wash until the water runs clear.

Gently shake out excess water and leave the filter to drain with the foam element facing up.

Step 6 Dry the filter

Leave the filter in a dry area with good airflow for at least 24 hours.

Step 7 Reinstall the filter

Insert the completely dry filter into the top of the Dyson V15 Detect.

Turn the filter clockwise until it clicks into place.

Check that the filter sits snugly in the vacuum body.

Step 8 Maintain the filter

Wash the filter at least once a month to help maintain suction.

Clean the filter when the vacuum displays a filter-wash alert or airflow drops.

After the completely dry filter is locked in place, run the vacuum briefly and check that airflow has improved. If the problem continues, ask the Dyson V15 Detect Answers community for help.
