Door Frame Strike Plate Replacement

What you need

    • With a screwdriver, remove the two screws holding the strike plate in place.

    • The screwdriver used during this guide will vary due to the size of the pre-existing screws.

    • Depending on the type of strike plate, the strike plate may not remain in place after removing both of the screws.

    • The holes of the new strike plate should align with the holes of the damaged strike plate. If they do not, new holes on the door frame would need to be drilled.

    • Apply the new strike plate to the frame of the door, and ensure that the strike plate's holes are aligned with the drilled-in holes on the door frame.

    • Screw in the top screw first, ensuring that the strike plate will remain in place. Then, screw in the bottom screw.

  6. Door Frame Strike Plate Replacement: step 6, image 1 of 1
    • Ensure that the strike plate is not loose by trying to wiggle the strike plate with your hand.

    • If the strike plate budges, continue screwing in the screws until it does not budge.
