Dell Latitude 5590 Keyboard Replacement

What you need

    • Remove keyboard shroud by carefully prying at the top, upwards. Can be done with a screwdriver but not recommended.

    • Gently lift off the shroud, ensuring that it does not break

    • screw location: below windows key, below right alt key, below zero on numberpad, below L key, to the left of the number pad and between Enter and right shift, below R key.

    • Unscrew the 8 screws on the bottom of the machine to remove the back cover. The screws will be held in by the cover.

    • Unscrew the battery and unplug it. Carefully lift it out at an angle, and set it aside.

    • Once the battery is removed, disconnect the 3 (non-backlit) or 4 (backlit) cables from the trackpad

    • Lift the black connectors carefully, then remove the cables

    • Carefully turn the machine over with the back cover still off, and open the laptop. Carefully pry from the bottom of the keyboard going to the top, then lift it out slowly, ensuring the cables don't catch on anything

    • Ensure that the cables are bent downwards, but not at an extreme. Slot in the cables into the gap between the trackpad and the metal backframe.

    • Go around the keyboard clipping it in, then reinstalling the screws. reinstall the keyboard shroud carefully by clipping it into place, ensuring it is in the correct direction

    • Turn the machine back over, and then reinsert the cables to the corresponding connectors, and carefully push the black tabs down

    • Reinsert the battery, ensuring that it is seated flush and even. Screw it back down. Reconnect it to the motherboard

    • After reinstalling the battery, reinstall the bottom cover and fasten the 8 screws.
