Dell Dimension 4600 Video Card Replacement

What you need

  1. Dell Dimension 4600 Video Card Replacement, Side Panel: step 1, image 1 of 1
    • Locate the case cover latch on the back of the computer.

    • Using your index finger, slide and hold the cover latch down.

    • While holding the latch down, place your other hand flat on the side of the case and firmly shift the side panel to the left until it disengages.

    • Grab the edge of the panel and slide it away from the case until it is removed.

    • Lay the computer flat so that you are looking down on all of the components.

    • Locate the Video Card and the screw attached to the Video Card as shown in the picture.

    • Remove the 8.9 mm screw by using a Phillips #2 screw-driver.

  7. Dell Dimension 4600 Video Card Replacement: step 7, image 1 of 1
    • Push down on the green clip located by the bottom right corner of the video card while simultaneously pulling the card up with your other hand.

  8. Dell Dimension 4600 Video Card Replacement: step 8, image 1 of 1
    • Pull the remainder of the card up and out of it's slot.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.

I have a question - My dell dimension 4600 has lines going down the screen, ive tried 3 different monitors, reinstalling windows (reinstalling would have lines going down the screen, after installing all programs the system freezes up with lines going down the screen nothing else) ive tried system restore can someone tell me whats going on?

That sounds like either a GPU failure or internal Graphics failure. Have you checked thermal paste?
