Dell Chromebook 3100 2-in-1 Keyboard Replacement

Introduction

This guide will tell you step-by-step how to replace the keypad in the Dell Chromebook 3100 2-in-1.

Before beginning, make sure to power off your phone completely and disconnect from any external power source.

What you need

  1. Dell Chromebook 3100 2-in-1 Keyboard Replacement, Keyboard: step 1, image 1 of 1

    • Using a phillips screw driver (PH1) remove the 9 (M2.5x4) screws holding the back cover

    • Pry the back cover off the laptop.

    • Slide the black clips towards the battery to release the ribbon. Lift the ribbon out and unplug the keyboard cable.

    • Turn the device over. Then, using a jimmy, firmly press between the keyboard and the laptop frame.

    • Repeat this process along both sides of the laptop and the bottom of the keyboard.

    • Once the three sides have been pried open, lift the keyboard slightly and pull towards you.

In case you were thinking about trying this without removing the bottom case, don't be like me. The center two screws on the bottom case, screw into the keyboard and the flex cable is not accessible from the under the keyboard. All steps in this guide are necessary. 🙃
