DeWalt DW920 Trigger Replacement

Introduction

Is the trigger on your DeWalt cordless screwdriver DW920 not working properly? Lets start by troubleshooting the problem to see if a replacement is necessary.

Before fully replacing the trigger, check to see if the trigger is jammed or loose. If the trigger can not be pushed and it is not in the locked position, then the trigger is jammed and you only have to remove the obstruction in the drill instead of a fully replacing the trigger.

If the the motor is not running when fully compressing the trigger, and/or not recoiling fully upon releasing, then the tigger is loose. This can be fixed by opening up the drill and tightening the trigger, which would avoid a full replacement.

If the trigger has broken apart inside the drill, you may hear rattling in the drill when shaking it and notice that it doesn't respond when pressing the trigger. Before beginning this repair, be sure that your DeWalt DW920 cordless screwdriver. is off and the battery has been removed.

What you need

Step 1 Disassembly

Using an H-5.0 bit driver remove the four T-10 Torx screws.

Use 2 H-5.0 bit drivers to take out the main bolt and head.
There will be blue locktite on the tread.

Carefully remove the two halves of the handle.

Gently lift the broken trigger assembly out of the slot.

Use a soldering iron to desolder the points where the trigger assembly is attached to the motor assembly.
The soldering iron is very hot and will burn. Use with caution.
