Corsair K95 RGB Platinum Key Switch Replacement

Introduction

This guide walks through how to replace a broken key switch for a Corsair K95 RGB Platinum mechanical keyboard.

A key switch on a mechanical keyboard is the mechanism under the key caps that register when an individual key is pressed. When a key stops functioning correctly, may it be incorrectly actuating or not working, it could be due to a damaged key switch. These problems may also be due to dirt and dust interfering with the switch, so we recommend cleaning your keyboard prior to starting this guide.

It is important to note that this fix involves soldering and desoldering. We recommend going over this guide if you are unfamiliar with how to solder or desolder a connection.

Ensure that your keyboard is unplugged before beginning.

What you need

Step 1 Key Switch

Remove the keycaps from the keyboard using the keycap puller.

Gently pry the volume wheel guard to remove it.
This piece is fragile.

Unscrew the screws from the faceplate with a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

Lift the faceplate off the keyboard.
Flip the board over to reveal the PCB.

Desolder the connection of the broken switch.
Do not touch the metal on the soldering iron. Doing so may cause severe burns.
Flip the board over.
Remove the broken switch.

Align the new switch with the soldering holes.

Flip the board over.
Solder the pins of the new switch to the board.
Do not touch the metal on the soldering iron. Doing so may cause severe burns.
