Introduction
Utilisés régulièrement, les ventilateurs de table ont tendance à accumuler la poussière et la saleté. Cette accumulation peut engendrer des bruits inhabituels et même affecter les performances globales. Heureusement, cette réparation est relativement simple et ne demande même pas de tournevis. Tout ce dont vous avez besoin, c'est d'un chiffon ou gant de toilette humide et de vos deux mains.
Note : la saleté est connue pour être la source habituelle de ce problème, cependant il est aussi possible que ça ne soit pas le cas et qu'une autre partie du ventilateur (comme le moteur par exemple) soit en cause. Ce souci n'est pas résolu par ce tutoriel, donc si votre ventilateur fait encore du bruit après un bon nettoyage, il est possible que vous deviez chercher un autre problème à régler.

Posez votre ventilateur sur une surface plane et dégagée comme une table.

Il peut être utile de placer une serviette sous votre ventilateur, afin de récupérer la saleté qui peut s'en détacher.

Retirez les attaches qui maintiennent la cage de protection en les tirant une à une hors du ventilateur.

En retirant les dernières attaches, veillez à soutenir la cage avec votre autre main. Sinon, elle risque de tomber !

Une fois la partie avant de la cage détachée, retirez-la du ventilateur et mettez-la de côté.

Maintenant que vous pouvez accéder aux pales, il est temps de les démonter. Tenez les pales d'une main et dévissez le cache au centre.

Prenez garde au sens dans lequel dévisser le cache. C'est indiqué dans le sens horaire sur ce ventilateur. Si vous rencontrez des difficultés en dévissant le cache, vous tournez peut-être dans le mauvais sens.

Une fois desserré, le cache devrait sortir facilement.

Une fois le cache retiré, les pales peuvent être extraites.

Tirez l'ensemble des pales hors du rotor, en utilisant votre autre bras pour maintenir le ventilateur en arrière.

Posez les pales de côté.

Une fois le cache retiré, vous pouvez maintenant faire coulisser la deuxième partie de la cage.

Quand vous remonterez le ventilateur, rappelez-vous de repositionner cette partie de la cage en alignant les trous dans le centre de la cage avec les attaches plastiques de la base.

Une fois l'ensemble des parties facilement détachables retirées du ventilateur, vous devez vous retrouvez face à un ventilateur dénudé.

Il est temps de passer au nettoyage ! D'abord, les pales. Ne trempez pas le ventilateur dans l'eau et ne laisser pas d'eau immerger la partie interne du moteur.

Humidifiez votre chiffon ou gant avec de l'eau chaude et commencez à essuyer la surface des pales. N'utilisez jamais d'essence, de produit chimique ou de diluant pour nettoyer le ventilateur. Cela pourrait l'endommager.

Veillez à bien nettoyer tous les recoins et fentes. Laissez sécher.

Enfin, le reste du ventilateur.

Comme pour les deux dernières étapes, essuyez le rotor et la zone l'entourant. Après le nettoyage, veillez à bien sécher le ventilateur avec un chiffon ou une serviette avant de l'utiliser.

Voilà ! Votre ventilateur devrait être (presque) comme neuf ! Veillez à le nettoyer souvent pour un entretien convenable. (Une fois par semaine devrait suffire, selon l'usage de votre ventilateur.)
Mine case is quite a different root cause for humming noise. Only when clearing of four roller’s surface of underneath baseplate, the noise disappeared. Slight un-evenness of the whole platform had creat humming problem.
LOL, clean a fan every 2 weeks? I clean ours about every 2 to 3 years. My proplem is the fan rattles when tilted upwards. It's a 16 inch desktop fan, but it sits on the floor in our bedroom. I know it is the motor shaft shifting back and forth. This fan has done this pretty much since it was new. Is there any way to put a spring or something on the motor shaft to stop this rattling?

If you read the introduction, the author of the article explains that dirt and debris could be one of the causes of a noisy fan, but it does not necessarily apply to all cases. If you tried cleaning the fan and had no success in fixing the issue, there's a whole device page dedicated to fans if you head over to: Fan which may point you to the right solution, you may also try asking on the answers forum (https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/Ask/Fan) and there's a very good chance an experienced user can guide you through the process of IDing and fixing the problem

Worked like a charm. I had a noisy pedestal fan in my bedroom that's only used during the summer, but it got noisy enough to wake us up. Now it's nice and quiet. I also made a cover for it to keep the dust out when it's being stored during winter. Our fan had the directions that the various pieces were to be turned to tighten them imprinted on the pieces themselves. It's an 18-year-old Lasko pedestal fan, and I'd cleaned it before, but not as thoroughly as the instructions indicated.
my fan is brand new.it makes a creeky squeeky sound every time it turns to the right.i know how to put a fan together,but i've never tried to see if i can open up a motor to see if i can hear where it is originating from.i think the joint is too tight in the arm maybe.i can't find anyone who knows who can fix it-no electrician knows.i also have problem finding someone who can install an apartment ac,for when i need a new ac-no ac business has a clue!

Cleaning the fan (which isn't fixing it) did nothing.
The fan required some lubricant on the spindle, which was worked into the other areas at either end.
After a moment's, the fan was more quiet than before.
my fan is brand new, bought it and it sat for around 4 months doing nothing, i took it plugged it in and it worked fine then after 10 minutes it started making very loud and noisy buzzing noise i couldnt sleep at all..
Should I oil it after cleaning.
