Introduction

This is a replacement guide for the bread grabber springs on the Black and Decker TR1278B.

Unplug the toaster before disassembly.
  • Unplug the toaster before disassembly.

  • Remove the carriage lever by pulling it away from the toaster.

Toaster will be turned upside down. Clear crumb tray or work over a paper towel.

  • Unscrew all four 4mm screws on the bottom using a Phillip's head #2 (PH2) screwdriver.

Turn the toaster right side up.
  • Turn the toaster right side up.

  • Support the bottom. The ribbon cable that connects the toaster to the front cover can be damaged.

  • Lift the front cover.

  • Lift carefully. Again the ribbon cable can be damaged.

Detach the bundled cable connector from the toaster by carefully pulling it away from the circuit board.

Locate the spring

Press down on the toaster lever  to gain access to the grabber spring located behind the large metal plate.

  • Use metal spudger to loosen clamps on spring.

Use needle nose tweezers to pull the spring off of its hook.
  • Use needle nose tweezers to pull the spring off of its hook.

  • Repeat this step for the opposite side.

Remove the old spring from the toaster unit to insert the new one.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
