In this guide you will learn how to replace the power and volume flex cable in the Asus Zenfone 5.

This guide is for replacing the flex cable instead of the buttons itself, as replacing the buttons is considerably easy I won't make one!

  1. Start by locating the small opener tab at the bottom-left corner of the phone.
    • Start by locating the small opener tab at the bottom-left corner of the phone.

    • Remove the entire back cover.

      • Use a plastic opening tool to make it easier to open. Here I'm simply using a cosmetic tweezer as I don't have one.

      • It did leave mark a bit but doesn't matter to me.

  2. Remove the following screws:
    • Remove the following screws:

      • 3 shorter Phillips #00 screws

      • 10 longer Phillips #00 screws

      • One of my longer screws is missing, don't know when I lost it.

    • Gently lift the midframe up.

      • There might be some adhesive just beneath these, just keep lift it up gently.

    • Identify these:

      • Flex Cable connector

      • Power and Volume Button Flex Cable itself

      • Battery Power connector

    • First disconnect the power line by gently lift the Battery Power connector up to prevent accidental power-on.

      • Use a spudger to make it easier to lift it up.

    • Gently pull the Flex Cable connector off from its port.

      • Use a pair of tweezers to make it easier to pull it off.

    • Take the old Flex Cable off.

    • Replace the Flex Cable that you've taken off with the new one.

      • The broken one

      • The new one

    • Take the sticker for securing the adhesive off from the new one.

    • Carefully place it.

    • Refer to the conclusion.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
