Introduction

We are going to teach you how to remove/replace the Upper Case of your Asus U50F-RBBAG05.

  1. Turn the laptop over so the bottom is facing up.
    • Turn the laptop over so the bottom is facing up.

    • Slide the tabs on either side of the battery away from the battery, toward the edges of the laptop.

    • Slide the left tab to the left to lock it into the unlocked position. Red showing next to the tab signifies that it's unlocked.

    • You will have to hold the right tab to the right to keep it unlocked while removing the battery.

  2. Hold down the tab on the right while sliding the battery out.
    • Hold down the tab on the right while sliding the battery out.

    • Remove the battery.

    • Remove 6 screws

    • Pry the lower panel up with your fingernail/spudger.

    • Lift up and remove

    • Remove 2 screws

    • Push back the hard drive

    • Pry up with spudger (or fingernail)

    • Pull back and up

    • Remove completely

    • Push back on the silver clips until you hear/feel a pop.

    • Pull back RAM card and remove

    • Repeat for lower RAM card

    • Remove 1 screw

    • Use the plastic opening tool to push the drive out from the back.

    • Pull drive out and remove completely.

    • Tip: When reassembling the drive, put the laptop right-side-up. Then, push the drive all the way in. Finally, flip back over and continue with the directions. (Otherwise the drive will catch and be difficult to reassemble)

    • Remove the 2 screws on the fan

    • Remove the 4 screws on the heat sink

    • Remove 1 Bundled Cable Connector: Pull the cable away from the connector in the same direction as the individual wires are running.

    • Pull evenly on the full width of the cable so that no individual wires are overly strained.

    • Pull up the heat sink a bit and then pull back (there's an overhanging piece of the lower panel near the fan that you have to scoot out of)

    • Then lift and remove the whole device

    • Insert one of the pry tools under a top corner and the other tool under the side of the top corner(make sure to get under the metal of the keyboard, not just the first layer of plastic). Then pry the corner down and out from under the little overhang its sitting under.

    • Next, slide the pry tool on the top over to the next overhang and insert the second tool on the other side. Push down and pry out the keyboard.

    • Repeat all the way down to the opposite corner.

    • Once the keyboard is free, lift it up slightly and release the cable connection underneath.

    • Remove the keyboard completely.

    • Remove 3 screws in the optical drive area

    • Remove 6 screws on outer lower case

    • Remove 4 screws on hinges

    • Remove 3 screws on inner lower case

    • Remove 2 screws

    • Upper Case: Disconnect Wires

    • Disconnect 2 Bundled Cable Connectors: Pull the cable away from the connector in the same direction as the individual wires are running.

    • Pull evenly on the full width of the cable so that no individual wires are overly strained.

    • Disconnect 1 No-Fuss Ribbon Cable connector: pull it straight out of the connector.

    • These kinds of connectors are fairly rare, so check carefully for a way to release the connector before you resort to pulling on the ribbon cable.

    • Disconnect 1 Bundled Cable Connector: : Pull the cable away from the connector in the same direction as the individual wires are running.

    • Pull evenly on the full width of the cable so that no individual wires are overly strained.
