    • Insert any of the plastic opening tools into the seam to separate the back cover (it is recommended to start at the corner of the hinges). If you did it right, then the cover should pop off.

    • Be careful as you may damage the tabs.

Another good place to start is at the USB port near the SD card slott. Work toward the hinge first, then back down the short side. There are 5 strong tabs on each short side, and several weaker tabs on the front and between the hinges. The tabs are attached to the bottom. Once one short side is nearly free and the front seam is not totally closed, then try pushing the bottom toward the free short side (at most 1/2 mm) which can make the other tabs easier to “pop”.

    • Once the back cover is removed, have the laptop facing upside down with the hinges facing toward you.

Some conventions say to gently disconnect the battery cable from the circuit board before working with other cables.

Notice the space and socket for M.2 SSD (42mm or 80mm) between the HDD and the battery! (Screw needed.)

    • Use the Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove the eight 4mm screws around the hard drive casing (located next to the Right [R] speaker).

    • Start off with the four black outer screws so that the casing can be released from the laptop unit.

    • The next sequence of screws to remove are the four silver screws.

You should disconnect the data cable from the mb and pull the whole cage & drive assembly before you take out the silver screws or detach the cable from the drive to make it easier to insert or remove the drive.

    • Lift the hard drive and disconnect the hard drive sliding connector.

    • Be careful when removing the connector from the hard drive, as damaging that cable could cause damage to the hard drive.

I used your steps to replace the 128GB SSD with a larger drive. When I booted up, the new SSD appeared, the REMOVED 128GB SSD appeared, but the 1TB HHD data drive disappeared. Any tho’ts? Wish I could give you more than 30 points. Thanks. I was down to 17GB on the original drive.
