2013 Subaru Impreza WRX STi MAF Sensor Replacement

Introduction

A car's MAF sensor detects how much air is entering the engine to mix with fuel for optimal performance. When it starts malfunctioning, the car might lose power, shake, or use more fuel than necessary. Luckily, a MAF sensor is easily replaceable with a few basic tools.

What you need

Step 1 MAF Sensor

Pop, open, and prop the hood.
Locate the MAF sensor in the front of the vehicle.

Pull the connector straight back to detach it from the MAF sensor.
Use pliers if necessary.

Twist the Allen wrench in a counter-clockwise motion to loosen both 10mm socket-head cap screws.

Rock the MAF sensor side-to-side. Once loose, firmly pull the sensor out of the socket.
Avoid touching the sharp bronze blades inside the sensor.

Insert the new MAF sensor into the socket. Apply firm, even pressure until the sensor is secure.
Line up the screw holes to make the process easier.

Step 6

Twist the Allen wrench in a clockwise motion to tighten both 10mm socket-head cap screws.
Tightly fasten the screws to prevent the MAF sensor from falling out while the vehicle is in motion.
