Introduction

This guide will show how to replace a dead or dying battery in a Honda Shadow Spirit motorbike. All tools should be included in the motorbike in the tool box.

NOTE: The directions in the guide refer to the view from the back of the motorbike.

Left = The side opposite the tail pipe

Right = The side with the tail pipe

  • Remove the plastic covering, located on the left side of the bike, by pulling the piece straight off the bike.

Image 1/3: Using the key to the motorbike, unlock the tool box. Image 2/3: Remove the plastic bag inside holding the tools needed for basic maintenance for the motorbike. Image 3/3: Remove the plastic bag inside holding the tools needed for basic maintenance for the motorbike.
  • The tool box is located under the panel.

  • Using the key to the motorbike, unlock the tool box.

  • Remove the plastic bag inside holding the tools needed for basic maintenance for the motorbike.

  • Using the allen wrench, remove the screws on both sides of the bike seat.

Image 1/1: Pull the seat backwards to remove it from the bike.
  • Pull the rear of the seat upwards.

  • Pull the seat backwards to remove it from the bike.

  • Using the screwdriver, remove the screw holding the plastic cover.

Image 1/1: Place the fuse box over to the side right of the bike.  Do not disconnect the wires.
  • Pull the cover off the battery and remove the fuse box from the cover.

  • Place the fuse box over to the side right of the bike. Do not disconnect the wires.

Image 1/1: Place the wire over the left side of the bike.
  • Using the screwdriver, remove the ground wire (negative (-) cable) from the battery.

  • Place the wire over the left side of the bike.

Image 1/1: Place the wire over the right side of the bike.
  • Also using the screwdriver, remove the positive (+) cable from the battery.

  • Place the wire over the right side of the bike.

  • Do not let the red(+) and black(-) wires touch

  • Remove the battery from the bike by pulling upwards.

This part of the removal is confusing. My battery seems to be attached to the plastic housing it is in - may even be bolted under the bottom - I can't tell. But it does not just lift out..
