1996-1998 Subaru Legacy Oil Change

What you need

    • Pull the hood latch to release the front hood.

    • Go around to the front of the car and trigger the lever to raise the hood.

    • Lift the hood prop and insert the end into the hood.

    • Locate the oil drain plug underneath the vehicle.

    • Put down some newspaper or cardboard to catch any spills or splashes

    • Slide the oil pan under the drain plug.

    • Take your 17mm socket and loosen the drain plug.

    • Once loose enough, remove the plug by hand.

    • The oil may be hot, so wear latex gloves when removing the plug.

    • Let the oil drain out until its just a drip.

    • Clean off the plug with a paper towel or rag.

    • Re-screw drain plug back into the oil pan.

    • Make sure it's not to tight or loose - check the owners manual for torque specifications.

    • Locate the Oil Filter on the underside of the car.

    • Remove the oil filter and let the oil drain out.

    • Re-add the new, fresh oil filter.

    • Add 4.8 Quarts of new oil.
