Background
The Sony WH-CH710N is a pair of full-sized headphones designed for noise cancellation and everyday use. These headphones were released in 2020 as a more affordable alternative to Sony’s WH-1000XM3, offering many of the same features at a lower price point.
These wireless headphones are smartphone compatible with a range of roughly 30 feet. They were designed with a USB-C charging port and a quick-charging battery that lasts up to 35 hours. The headphones weigh roughly 218 grams (0.48 lbs) and made mostly out of plastic. Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) allows them to automatically adjust to environmental noises for effective noise cancellation.
It comes in three main colors: black, blue, and white. The WH-1000XM3 goes for around $399, making these headphones a significantly cheaper option than its older model. They were released in a period of time when noise-cancelling headphones typically ran on the more expensive side, and these headphones were meant to bridge that gap. The headphones are still on the market on the official Sony Website. Although this headset is currently on the market, a newer version was released in 2023: the Sony WH-CH720N headset.
Common issues that have been reported for the WH-CH710N headphones include battery degradation over time, charging port wear, and unresponsive buttons. Most of these are noted after extended use of the headset. As of now, there are no reported manufacturer recalls.
Identification
This model of Sony headphones can be identified using markings along the insides of the headband. First, locate the right-hand side, which is marked with a red circle and an “R” above the ear cushion. Fully extend this side of the headband. On the inside portion, there will be an FCC ID. Directly underneath this is the IC number, which will include the serial code along with the model number WHCH710N.
To further confirm the model, extend the left side of the headband. There should be an inscription “WIRELESS NOISE CANCELLING STEREO HEADSET WH-CH710N.” Below that, there is an additional line identifying the manufacturer, Sont Corporation, along with the location where the headphones were produced.
