Background and Identification
Radio Flyer is best known for its classic red wagon, but the company also manufactures a variety of other toys, including tricycles, bicycles, scooters, etc. Radio Flyer was founded in Chicago, Illinois in 1917 by Antonio Pasin. Pasin’s early wagons were wooden toy wagons that he built and sold in local shops. His business continued to grow, and he changed his building material from wood to stamped steel in 1927. This resulted in a company name change to Radio Steel & Manufacturing. In 1987, in response to the popularity of the classic red wagon, Radio Steel changed its name to Radio Flyer.
The classic Radio Flyer Wagon was produced in high volumes, even during the Great Depression when Radio Flyer still produced 1500 wagons a day. The Radio Flyer Classic Red Wagon has been sold on Amazon since 2007. The classic wagon has an all-steel body, a fold-under handle, and rubber tires. It is marketed as being a classic symbol of American childhood. The wagon is intended both as a toy and for other purposes, such as gardening or load transport.
