Background and Identification

Osmometry, also known as osmometric concentration, is the measure of solute concentration in a solution. The value allows for the measurement of osmotic pressure of a solution, which can be used to determine the molecular weight of a substance.

According to Wikipedia, “Osmolarity is distinct from molarity because it measures osmoles of solute particles rather than moles of solute. The distinction arises because some compounds can dissociate in solution, whereas others cannot.”

Osmotic concentration can be measured through the use of an osmometer.
