Background and Identification
The Surface Book is the first full-featured laptop in the Surface family. With a secondary battery and integrated graphics card, the display portion, known as the "clipboard" is detachable, and can function independently of the keyboard dock. When connected, however, the Surface book takes advantage of an additional battery and an optional dedicated graphics card for high-performance computing.
Both the clipboard and keyboard components have a machined magnesium housing. The Book is easily identifiable by its dynamic fulcrum hinge, which expands when open to evenly distribute the clipboard's weight. The model number, 1703, is also present on the bottom of the clipboard, next to the SurfaceConnect port.
