Lenovo Flex 6 14" Teardown
These are some common tools used to work on this device. You might not need every tool for every procedure.
Background and Identification
The Flex 6 (14”) is a foldable laptop released by Lenovo in 2018. It features a 14-inch touchscreen that can fold backwards about 300 degrees so you can prop it up in what Lenovo calls “tent mode.” The laptop is powered by either an Intel processor or an AMD processor, depending on which model you have. For the Intel design, the model number is “Flex 6-14IKB.” For the AMD version, the model number is “Flex 6-14ARR.” According to this Lenovo forum post, IKB stands for Intel Kaby Lake while ARR stands for AMD Raven Ridge. These are the codenames for the processors in the respective models. In either case, your machine might also have an optional Nvidia MX130 graphics card to provide extra power in graphically-intensive tasks.
Several components in the Flex 6 (14”) are replaceable, including the memory, storage, and battery; however, accessing them requires removing the back cover with a Torx screwdriver. The computer has a single slot for memory which can accept up to 16 GB. If you install a replacement drive, make sure you get one that plugs into an M.2 slot and uses the NVMe protocol. Additionally, replacement part numbers are listed in the laptop’s hardware manual along with basic instructions on how to remove some components.
You can identify the Flex 6 (14”) by looking for the serial number on a sticker on the bottom of the device. This sticker is shown in the “IdeaPad” section of this Lenovo support article. Enter your serial number on the Lenovo support website to find detailed information about your exact model. This laptop has a sibling called the Flex 6 (11”) which is similar, but has a smaller body and an 11-inch screen.
