The Leitz Laborlux S is a highly regarded, robust compound microscope introduced in 1978 for biological, clinical, and industrial laboratory applications. It features a finite optical system with a 160 mm tube length, utilising standard RMS-threaded objectives that typically provide magnifications ranging from 40x to 1000x, including oil-immersion. Highly modular, the scope was designed to accommodate various components, including different viewing heads, stages, and condensers for contrast techniques such as phase contrast and darkfield. Although discontinued in the early 1990s as Leitz transitioned to Leica, it remains a popular choice on the used market due to its ergonomic design and durable mechanical quality.
