Background and Identification
The JBAID system or the Joint Biological Agent Identification system is a portable PCR instrument used to identify biological threat agents. It is used by the Chemical/Biological Acquisition Programs Section of the Operational Test and Evaluation Force which is an independent agency within the US Navy.
The JBAID system is composed of an air thermocycler and a fluorimeter. It also utilizes software to analyze the PCR data which makes a determination of positive or negative tests for 16 biological threat agents.
