Background
The Intel Arc A580 is the last discrete graphics card to have been released under the Arc A-series, also known by codename Alchemist. The Arc A580 competes in the budget GPU market and was announced in 2022, with a release at October 10, 2023, almost a year after its predecessor the Intel Arc A750 and A770 which were released on October 14th the year prior.
The Intel Arc A580 is more or less a cut-down of the Arc A750, made with the same 6 nm 406 mm² die with 24 Xe cores compared to the A750's 28 Xe cores. The Arc A580 comes with 8 GB of VRam, resizable bar, DirectX 12 Ultimate support, and 384 matrix processors for enhanced machine learning usage while using 50 W less than the A750. Whereas the Intel Arc A580 has a graphics clock of just 1700 MHz, compared to the A750's 2050 MHz clock, the Arc A580 still over clocks up to 2400 MHz just like its predecessor.
The Intel Arc A-series, known as codename Alchemist, previously known as codename DG2 is the first generation of Intel Arc GPUs, which comes as mobile (laptop), desktop and workstation form factors. The Alchemist series uses Intel Xe-HPG architecture and supports DirectX 12 Ultimate, OpenCL 3.0 and multiple hardware encoders.
The Alchemist series was first announced in a press release in August 2021, with an official announcement in March 2022, with the A-series release on March 30th, 2022. The Intel Arc A580 is the last graphic card in the Alchemist series which was released in October 2023.
Identification
The Intel Arc A580 features multiple graphic card partners and vendors with different specifications and appearances. The GPU model can usually be found on the product sticker, often on the GPU's backside. The Arc A580 graphic cards typically features the Intel Arc lettering on the side.
The GPU can be identified in Windows though the Task Manager, by:
- Open the Windows Task Manager.
- Navigate to the Performance Tab.
- Locate the GPU section.
- The name of the GPU is then stated on the top right as a title.
The GPU can be identified in Linux by following this How-To-Geek guide.
