Background and Identification
The HP Pavilion 15-B series is a line of laptops sold by Hewlett-Packard (HP). As the name would suggest, they all feature 15-inch screens, usually with a resolution of 1366x768 pixels or greater. The model name for each of these laptops uses the form “Pavilion 15-bxxxxx…” with the extra “x” characters at the end replaced with a variety of numbers that identify the specific model. If you want to find your exact model—for any reason—you can find the model name on an informational sticker. This sticker is usually located on the bottom of the laptop, but it might be behind the battery on some models with removable batteries. You can see more information on how to find this product name in this HP support article.
Aside from the product name (e.g. Pavilion 15-b142dx), you can find more specific information about your laptop using its product number. This number is also found on the same sticker, but it’s generally just a series of letters and numbers, as in “D8X43UA” or “G8C16AS#ABA.” Finally, the sticker should also contain a serial number which you can use on the HP warranty check webpage to find more information about your device.
HP Pavilion 15-B models generally have one or two memory slots for expansion, and some of the early models have a built-in optical drive. Some versions have a dedicated graphics card, while others use only integrated graphics.
