Background:
Designed as a general-purpose notebook, the Asus is an all-in-one gaming laptop launched in 2014-15. It combines productivity, media consumption, and performance since it was equipped with components such as an Intel Core i7 processor, a 15.6-inch full HD screen, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX graphics card.
One notable design is its focus on audiovisual quality. With Bang & Olufsen ICE power technology and an integrated subwoofer, this model was advertised as having a superior audio system compared to others. Its exterior features include a backlit keyboard, an aluminum case, HDMI, and USB 3.0. In addition, it was able to support an improved memory and system response through a solid-state drive (SSD) upgrade, and a weight of approximately 2.7 kg (5.95 lb).
The N551J was launched internationally for approximately 1000 euros ($1100 at the time), and during its life on the market, it did not have a specific problem. However, over prolonged use, users noticed problems with its cooling system and its touchpad. After extended use, the keyboard became noticeably hotter and the touchpad unresponsive. On the other hand, users recognized its video and audio quality as a strong point, relative to other computers in the same price range at the time.
The N551J model followed the earlier N550 generation, which was produced with the same multimedia purpose but containing more powerful hardware, a new cooling system, and other updates from its predecessor. Similarly, a few years after its release, it was replaced by other, more modern models - such as the Asus VivoBook Pro 15 N552.
It does not have an official discontinuation date; after more than a decade since its release, it is considered outdated. Over time, it was replaced by updated models with newer hardware generations, and it is no longer manufactured or sold as new, but it is still available for purchase through used markets. Today, the device is mostly suitable for light gaming, everyday computer tasks, and multimedia use.
Device Identification:
The best way to identify your computer is by physically inspecting it. It should have a sticker with all the product information on the bottom. Asus is no different, so carefully turn the computer over until the bottom is facing you. Then, locate the sticker containing information about the model designation, serial number, and product or part number (P/N). The sticker also contains the serial number that can be used on the Asus website to verify the information. Below is an example of the sticker that should be on the computer (it may be gray or white). Note: Instead of PN52, it will say model N551J.
