FreeStyle Freedom Lite Owner's Booklet
Background
The FreeStyle Freedom Lite is a traditional fingerstick blood glucose monitoring system that was manufactured by Abbott Diabetes Care. Originally launched and made available in the United States on April 2008, it was considered as a companion model for the FreeStyle Lite meter as both used the same technology and test strips. However the Freedom Lite was considered better due to its larger numeric display and more comfortable design.
The FreeStyle Freedom Lite is intended to be used for people with diabetes to self test at home, as well as for the use of healthcare professionals. It's design to monitor effectiveness of diabetes control program without requiring coding. Its internal memory also provides and stores up to 400 test results with the time and date while also providing up to a months average. These tests and results are fast and accurate requiring at least five seconds and only a 0.3 Microliter blood sample from either your fingertips, palms, upper arms, thighs, calves, or hand.
The FreeStyle Freedom Lite weighs around 1.4 to 1.6 ounces with 3.3 inches (L) x 2.0 inches (W) x 0.63 inches (H). This makes it easy for on-the-go glucose monitoring and with one 3-volt lithium coin cell battery, it is easy to replace after at least 1,000 tests. However, unlike its previous models, the Freedom Lite did not have a port light or backlight due to the trade off of having a larger and comfortable design. While not completely affected, there was a recall on FreeStyle Lite test strips on November 2013. Some users have reported some malfunctions with either blank screens or error messages like 'SET', which troubleshooting guides suggest that the problem is caused by either test strip, battery, or meter.
