I've found this (https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_p_72_...) and this (http://www.etradesupply.com/samsung-gala...). I'm still not sure as to how to safely remove the bottom part of the charging cable/port (where the micro usb plugs into the device). It's underneath part of the shell housing that seems particularly tricky to get to. Anyone else have any luck with it?

Have look at this video on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WxerDUD... .

I used it to take apart our non charging SM-T520. It will take some gently prying/lifting of the grey plastic rim to 'free' the mic/charger connector/connector cable. I gently pulled out the connecting part first before working my way to the mic. I am currently waiting for my replacement part (Ebay, ordered complete ribbon cable) so I can NOT confirm that I didn't kill the tablet or not ;) .

The replacement mic/charger/connector flat cable arrived today.

I remove the steel cover from the original charge port as it is needed to screw down the new port in the tablet. After reconnecting the previously disconnected bits (not yet seating the cable/mic/etc in the frame of the tablet), I carefully plugged in the charger.

After some 5 seconds the backlight turned on and a brief moment of joy, nothing more than the charger port appeared to be damaged. After removing the charger I reseated the cable properly, fixated the flat cable with the original length of black sticky tape and placed the protective plastic adhesive over the connectors. Again the tablet was hooked up to the charger as to check that all was still in place; OK. The back cover was put in place using mild pressure and the snap retainers to got in their place. Even though the back covers snapped in place there remains a small gap along the edge. I guess the cover got slightly bent during the prying process and is in need of some glue.
