iPhone crashes every time battery dies.

My sons iPhone 3G holds a charge from 100% to 1% but once it dies I have to hard reboot it on my laptop. It will come back on completely restored but if he lets it completely die I have to hard reboot again. Why dies it crash when the battery dies and can it be fixed?

sounds like the battery is old and hasn't got enough residual charge left to allow power ups. I'd swap the battery

Charge the battery until 100% via Wall Adapter. Once full charged, plug it into iTunes and restore to the factory defaults. Don't forget to backup first. Once restored, tart using normally and run the battery until it dies itself. Let it stay there, as dead, for 2hrs. Then, recharge from Wall Adapter until it starts automatically and reaches 100% full charge. It should resolve this issue for a while.
