Hi @frankparke33902

Is the light on in the freezer when the door is open?

Just verifying that power is getting to the freezer.

Try turning the mechanical temperature control knob fully clockwise and then counter-clockwise and check if the compressor turns on when the control knob is set back to the coldest setting.

If it does then it could an intermittently faulty contact inside the temperature control unit . Unfortunately these cannot be repaired as there are no separately available internal parts for it. It has to be replaced.

You could try disconnecting the power to the freezer and then use a DMM's (digital multimeter) Ohmmeter function connected to the temperature control's wiring terminals (harness wires disconnected) to check if the control unit is turned on i.e. internal contacts are short circuit - 0.00 Ohms and not open circuit OL (or infinite Ohms) as shown by the meter.

If it is determined that it is faulty, search online for 297216004 to find suppliers that suit you best.

If it doesn't and it is determined that the temperature control is OK, then it could a faulty start relay (p/n 216954200) or run capacitor (p/n 297286812)

You could try disconnecting the power to the freezer and then removing the start relay (mounted on the compressor) and gently shake it, to check if it makes a rattling sound. If it does then this usually indicates that it is faulty.

leaving the door open caused a massive buildup of ice on the evaporator coils. They need to be thawed out before it can properly cool down again. 2 ways to do this:

  1. slow way: unplug freezer and leave door open, remove all food to coolers with ice or some other way to keep cold, allow many hours for ice to melt
  2. not as slow way: unplug freezer, remove food, remove shelves, unscrew evaporator coil cover in back of freezer, use a hair dryer or portable steamer to melt ice on evaporator coils. put it all back together and let it get down to temp before putting food back inside
