Why won't my iPod classic turn on

It won't charge, turn on or anything. The dead battery symbol isn't working. I tried resetting it with the middle and menu button. The screen flickers when I put it in the charger. I even tried charging through the computer to see if it would help

Sharon, the very first thing I would do is to change your battery. At least it will provide you with a clear starting point. Right now, it all is just academics and will not provide you with a known good start. The instructions for that are here. The battery is available at many places, depending on your geographical location. Hope this helps to get you started.
