Video @ 480p and then no video at all

Manufacture date is 2008-04-10

I hooked up the XBox 360 with an aftermarket component cable. I was able to get 480p output but failed to change the setting away from 480p. I power cycled the console, and was no longer able to get any video at all. There were no red rings on any of the quadrants.

I was able to replicate the video failure (no video at all) using a genuine Microsoft component cable. I didn't test with an HDMI cable. That's the biggest reason why I want to fix this console. It's the only one in the house with an HDMI output.

I'm aware of two methods to address this problem. One puts new thermal grease on the GPU and the other takes a heat gun to the video port solder joints. I'm not sure if my console has cracked or dry solder. I speculate if this were the case, then I would not be able to get video output at all on the first try.

How should I proceed given the unit's manufacturing date?

lkvee, the frist thing I would try is to reset your video settings:"Reset the console display settings

If the display problem is still not resolved, reset the display settings of your console. Here's how:

Remove any discs from the disc tray.

Turn off the console.

Turn on the console.

Note If you are using an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, turn on the console by using the Guide button on the controller. Make sure that you use the player 1 controller when you do this. The player 1 controller will have the upper-left light illuminated.

As the console starts, on the controller, press and hold Y while pulling the right trigger. The display settings are reset to the default settings, and then the console automatically restarts." from here. Of course, use a know good AV cable. If that does not work, you may have to treat it the same way as you would an RROD, use this guide and here is the kit. Hope this helps, good luck.
